Geof Schlittgen
Geof Schlittgen, broker/owner of Horizon Properties, was born in London, England, then moved with his family to Calgary, Canada, where the seeds of living a western outdoors lifestyle were planted. His school years were spent in California just north of San Francisco and included college at the University of California, Berkeley. “Getting an education at Berkeley in the late 60’s was quite colorful and included a history class taught by Black Panther Eldridge Cleaver,” Geof remembers.
Geof then moved to Munich, Germany, in 1970 and subsequently spent 8 years in the international ski community of Davos, Switzerland, as a professional photographer. He held a position as the head photographer for the Swiss Research Institute for Orthopedic Surgery, the pioneers of internal fixation of bone fractures (screws and plates), located in Davos and freelanced as a ski photographer, securing assignments from industry product marketing agencies.
In spite of this exciting lifestyle, the end of the 70’s found Geof missing “the land of opportunity.” He decided to take an extended trip throughout the Western United States in search of a mountain community he could call home. He visited areas such as Sun Valley, Idaho, where he had fond memories of working on the ski patrol in ’68 and ’69, as well as other mountain communities like Telluride and Taos.
