Overview:
The Hayes Ranch is a fully operational Red Angus cattle and Quarter-horse ranch situated in rolling lush grassy meadows with amazing mountain views, just 30 minutes West/Southwest of historic Durango, Colorado.
This working cattle ranch is comprised of 400-acres of "prime" (no pun intended) open range, with Juniper and Oak dotted hillsides, prominent elevated knolls, and 50 to 75 mile views to the North, West and South. 280 shares of Big Stick ditch water are utilized in irrigating pasture areas that average 200+ bales of hay annually. There are several natural ponds on the ranch including one substantial spring-fed pond near the improvements. The entire ranch is fenced and cross-fenced for ease of operation and has been well maintained over the years.
The main compound is a handcrafted 5000+ sq. ft. custom bi-level home with creature comforts one would expect after a long hard day on the range. A total of three bedrooms and four baths, great room, gourmet kitchen, master level with library, wine cellar, recreation room, and numerous outdoor entertaining areas. Natural and local materials are proudly used throughout the home. A massive spring-fed trout pond sits between the home and views of 13,000 ft. snowcapped La Plata Mountains.
In addition, there is a 1000 sq. ft. guest house just a few yards away with dual suites, a cozy river rock fireplace accented living room, full kitchen and covered patio deck - perfect for lemonade sipping afternoons.
Durango, Colorado is the hub of the area with a population of 15,000. The beautiful Animas River flows through the heart of downtown. Residents enjoy the small town community feel as well as summer and winter activities ranging from whitewater rafting, fly-fishing and mountain biking to snowshoeing and skiing. Spring and summer in the area are dry and mild with temperatures between 50 to 80 degrees. Fall and winter months are cool, crisp and filled with white snowy days and brilliant Colorado blue azure skies.
Just outside Durango is the La Plata County airport with multiple daily routes to Denver, Phoenix and Salt Lake on United, Delta and US Airways. World class skiing is nearby with thousands of acres of trails at Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory), Wolf Creek Ski Area and Telluride Ski Resort. The communities of Farmington, NM, Mancos, Cortez and Bayfield are all within a 45-minute drive from the ranch.
