No such thing as cabin fever in these parts. Durango area has over 200 miles of groomed trails for multiple winter activities such as skiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, . . . and we have an ice rink too!

Dog Sledding

Durango Mountain Resort
Purgatory Mountain at Durango Mountain Resort is 25 miles north of Durango . . . a slice of mountain heaven with a southwestern flavor. 1,200 acres of terraced terrain, 85 trails, 19 lifts, two terrain parks, children’s play park, Nastar racing course, lessons — plenty of options whether you’re a skier, snow boarder, snowshoer, or snow biker. The resort also offers snow cat trips, snowmobiling, Nordic skiing, and sleigh rides right from the base area and offers-up diverse and fun filled special events.
Silverton Mountain
Grab your avalanche beacon, probe pole, and shovel (required) – Silverton Mountain is the highest and steepest Ski Area in North America. Peak your interests? One chairlift takes you into a high alpine environment surrounded by amazing ski lines in every direction. The terrain is entirely for the advanced and expert skiers who enjoy (real) adventure. Wolf Creek
Reminiscent of California skiing in the ‘60’s, this place is casual and relaxed. Wolf Creek Ski Area is about 1.5 hours (80 miles) east of Durango and just up the pass from the town of Pagosa Springs. Seven lifts service over 1,600 acres of terrain and offer something special for all levels of ability. The Alberta Chairlift serves the unique and adventuresome Water Fall area, which is full of incredible glades and terrain.

Telluride Ski Resort
A great winter day trip from Durango (about 2 hours around the mountain). We get up at the crack of dawn and head to Telluride via Lizard Head pass usually enjoying bald eagles sitting in the treetops along the Dolores River. Once at Telluride Ski Resort we explore 1,700 acres of terrain: refined groomed runs to challenging moguls. The resort and town are beautifully planned to be easily accessible, via the free gondola, for those who would like to explore the old town and the mountain village: unique shops, restaurants, spas and coffee houses. On the way home we stop in Dolores and enjoy a traditional German fare at the Old Germany Restaurant. Say spaetzle!
